I am a self-taught artist and there is a childlike playfulness and spontaneity in the way I work. I hope to draw the viewer into my work so they may experience that same joy and energy. I wish that within my compositions the viewer
will imagine a world all their own — one that brings meaning and warmth.
It has taken me much time to discover not only what is necessary to my life but
also my spirit. It is through making art that I feel myself at home.
Our greatest work of all is a life that is well spent.
My daily Buddhist practice with a world peace organization, called
SGI-USA has been my guiding light through many challenges in life
and to be able to practice as an artist today is my fortune.

The inspiration from my work has at its source, the fact that I was fortunate enough to have been born September 1, 1955, in Casablanca, Morocco and I was, as such, exposed, to a world of colors, scents, and images early on which have never left my mind.

I then moved to France, where I learned about the Fauvist and Surrealist movements, which influenced my work, as seen in my more expressive brushstrokes.

My next move was to Montreal, Quebec where I studied and lived from 1973 to 1981, then Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles and finally settling in Las Vegas where I studied Foreign Languages at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with an interest in French literature and where I have now chosen to plant my easel and begin my life as a self supporting artist. These cities and travels have inspired me with their vital energy, which I translate into an animated color palette and daring new compositions.

I pursued extensive studies in massage therapy, studying with many innovators in the field in the 80s and 90s and founded the first school of massage in 1993 in Las Vegas, paving the way for many other schools to open. I have worked for many chiropractors and spas in town and the highlight of my career was working for Bellagio Spa and at the Spa at Aria, which is a five star spa, both on the Las Vegas Strip. I forged longstanding friendships there. After 40 years, I have now retired from the massage therapy field to focus on painting, writing poetry, studying and exploring photography. In 2018, I wrote, illustrated, and self-published two chapbooks, Child of the Cosmos, and with my son, Stephan, Two Worlds in One Mirror.

Entering my 70th year, I am looking forward to sharing the art that I have created as an avocational interest outside of my work in the massage field and staying true to my passion, I continue teaching advanced massage courses to interested therapists and creating new works of art.

One of my goals for the near future is to spend part of the year in the picturesque village of Port Alice, BC.

An aspect of my evolving art practice is to collaborate with Lindsay, my partner, painting in synchrony — and I am in the process of illustrating and writing a book with her on our story. You can find our work at Berg & Dahan (www.berganddahan.com).

Artist Statement

I am a self taught artist, a “tribal” in an ultramodern world. In my abstract paintings, I

like to express myself freely and spontaneously. There is a childlike surrender in the way

that I work, constantly looking to grow and experiment, to create unexpected

color mixes and innovative compositions. My intent is to create color palettes that exude

an energy of hope for the viewer and to generate feelings of joy and playfulness. As if

creating a movement, a dance with my hands, I try to stimulate the imagination of people.

Amplifying vivid colors, I want to invoke a strong feeling of vitality. My style is a

personal journey and is largely intuitive. Ultimately, I find great joy in inviting the viewer to dream and imagine a new world — that radiates warmth and happiness.

Thank you for the beautiful painting. Everyday, I wake up and look at it. Your work fills me with energy to start my day with an exuberance and life force to achieve everything I intend to do that day. You captured the spirit of living life in the most exciting way a human being can live in your painting. I’m looking forward to purchasing more!

“To see a painting by Serge Dahan brings a smile to my face, adds a warmth to my day. His paintings radiate imagination and relate to a depth within my life — like a good book, his paintings offer a story in colors.”
